Ayurveda has long praised the beneficial effects of drinking water from copper vessels. According to Ayurvedic principles, storing water in a copper bottle or cup for 8 to 10 hours has a harmonising effect on the three bioenergies (doshas) flowing in the human body: Vata (the element of air), Pitta (the element of fire) and Kapha (the element of water). Water stored in copper vessels also becomes naturally alkaline, which helps maintain the pH balance in the body.
Over time, copper naturally changes colour as a result of oxidation – a process that creates the so-called patina – and stains may also appear on it. These are natural properties of copper that have no negative effect on the safety of drinking from the vessel. Pure copper reacts with oxygen, water and substances contained in water, such as sulphur. This change in colour actually indicates a high copper content and confirms that the material purifies water effectively. Discolouration on the inside is harmless; however, if it is too pronounced, you can clean the bottle, carafe, water dispenser or cup.
Copper vessels are suitable for water only; do not use them for milk, citrus juices or other acidic liquids.
Do not wash in the dishwasher. For cleaning, use natural soap, a soft sponge and room-temperature water. Do not expose to direct sunlight.
Our unique copper water bottles, carafes, water dispensers and cups have been handmade in India for centuries. Precisely because they are handmade, each piece is unique and may differ slightly from the photograph. Minor irregularities may also occur in the material, which is a natural property of copper.
